Start with the show you want. Charlotte's live-music bars range from small neighborhood rooms to a restored movie theater, an intimate jazz club, and a full South End concert venue.
For a Plaza Midwood night
Snug Harbor has booked local, regional, and national bands since 2007. Its calendar also carries karaoke and DJ nights. The Rabbit Hole is the other Commonwealth Avenue choice, with bands, DJs, and a room that stays open until 2 a.m. six nights a week.
For a touring act in NoDa
Neighborhood Theatre began as the Astor Theatre in 1945 and became a live venue in 1997. It has a smaller room for emerging artists and a main stage for touring acts. This is the choice when the performance is the reason for the night.
For jazz and a table
Middle C Jazz brings mainstream, smooth, contemporary, R&B, and funk players into an intimate Uptown room. Small plates and cocktails let the show remain the center of the evening.
For South End
Amos' Southend books rock, country, alternative bills, tribute acts, and newer artists. Club West Brewing is the looser brewery version, with live music mixed into brunch, game days, and other taproom events.
Read the calendar before choosing the room. A venue that is perfect for a seated jazz set may be wrong for a loud band, and a DJ night is not a live band. Each profile links to the best available official schedule.
