Sophia's Lounge is the bar inside The Ivey's Hotel on North Tryon in Uptown, in a room the hotel describes as high-design opulence with vintage panache and European flair. It serves crafted cocktails, sharable plates and desserts, and it runs to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. Charlotte Magazine named it Best Upscale Cocktail Bar.
Soul opened in Plaza Midwood in 2009 as one of Charlotte's first small-plate restaurants, in a 68-seat upstairs room with no reservations and a waitlist that regularly ran two hours. Its own origin story says it was the first in the city to make local house deejays an integral part of the dining experience, and the house music has stayed. It lost the Plaza Midwood lease in 2022 and owner, chef and DJ Andy Kastanas spent three years building the replacement, reopening in August 2025 at 4110 Raleigh Street near the Sugar Creek station with roughly triple the seats, a semi-private dining room and a patio. The original interior designer, Scott Weaver, did the new room too.
Sugar Creek Brewing sits on Southside Drive off South Boulevard, and it is the Charlotte brewery that went all in on one style. Its own line is that it is 'dedicated to crafting Belgian-inspired ales for the Carolinas and beyond', with a philosophy that 'combines the watchful eye of a Trappist Monk with the technical precision of a nuclear engineer'. Co-founders Joe Vogelbacher and Eric Flanigan are named on the site.
Super Abari is an arcade bar on Seigle Ave with 105 machines on the floor: 64 arcade cabinets, 36 pinball tables and five rhythm games. It is 21 and over except Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6pm, when all ages are welcome. It posts a 2am close every night of the week and runs a pinball league every Tuesday.
Supperland is a Southern steakhouse inside a restored mid-century church on The Plaza, from the same Jeff Tonidandel and Jamie Brown group behind Haberdish and Growlers Pourhouse. Its own site says the restaurant occupies a restored mid-century church in Plaza Midwood and is plain about the work involved: restoring an old building is never an easy task, especially when that building is getting turned into a restaurant. The Bar at Supperland runs out of the church annex behind the main room, and there is a reservations-only speakeasy. It was named a Selected restaurant in the 2025 MICHELIN Guide American South, and its lead bartender Colleen Hughes won the guide's 2025 American South Exceptional Cocktails Award.
The Artisan's Palate is a small-plates room on East 36th Street that describes its own food as globally inspired and locally sourced, elevated comfort food served tapas style, with craft cocktails and a weekend brunch. It opens at 8am on weekdays, so it runs as a coffee-and-breakfast room before it becomes a bar.

The Bohemian is a wine bar on Pecan Avenue, a block off the Central Avenue strip, pouring by the glass and the bottle with cheese and charcuterie boards to go with them. It opens at noon most days and closes at 11pm on Friday and Saturday, which makes it one of the quieter rooms in a loud neighbourhood.
The Common Market describes itself as an uncommon convenience store, deli and bar: you can buy a six-pack, order a sandwich made fresh that day, and drink the beer on site. The Plaza Midwood store on Commonwealth Avenue is the one the neighbourhood built itself around. The company now also runs stores in South End, Oakwold on Monroe Road and Durham, with a Raleigh store listed as opening in 2026.
The Crunkleton sits on E 7th Street in Elizabeth and runs a classic cocktail bar with a deep whiskey list, including antique bottles and its own barrel picks. The Evening Muse has been running on North Davidson Street since 2001 and bills itself as Charlotte's premiere intimate venue for up-and-coming and established musicians, artists, comedians and poets. It is a listening room rather than a bar with a stage, and it runs a Monday open mic. Its calendar carries shows into 2027.
The Goodyear House is a restaurant inside a restored 1920s mill home on North Davidson Street, and the name comes from how the house grew. Its own site explains that when folks had a good year, they would add onto their homes, so each section could carry a different colour or style. Behind the house is a tree-covered garden and patio built for gathering. The kitchen serves lunch and dinner through the week, plus brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
The Hobbyist is a coffee bar by day and a beer, wine and cocktail bar by night on North Davidson Street in NoDa. Owners Bryson and Julie Woodside run hand-crafted coffee and tea beside 14 draft beers, wine by the glass and custom cocktails. The food is North Carolina artisan pastries rather than a kitchen.

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery opened in 2009 and calls itself Charlotte's oldest standing independent brewery. It brews German-style beer to the Reinheitsgebot, using only water, malt, hops and yeast. Its LoSo home sits on a one-acre biergarten shaded by mature oak, pecan and hickory trees, which the brewery calls the largest biergarten in the Southeast. A second room opened in Ballantyne.
OMB's Ballantyne taproom serves German beer with pretzels, sausages and American pub food. The restaurant and biergarten are on Bowl Street, so this is the south Charlotte stop rather than the brewery's LoSo location.

It is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day and runs its full kitchen menu until 1:30 a.m., which makes it one of the few genuinely late kitchens in Uptown. It added weekend brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking is free in the garage attached to the building.
The Rabbit Hole is a live room on Commonwealth Avenue that books bands and DJs and sums itself up in three lines on its own site: good drinks, good music, good people. The SouthPark room opens at 7:30am on weekdays and runs as a coffee bar before it is a taproom, which the South End original does not do. It keeps its own hours.
South End neighborhood bar open daily until 2 am. Its homepage says it shows Charlotte FC, Panthers, Hornets and East Carolina Pirates games on match days.
The Waterman Fish Bar is a neighborhood seafood room on South Boulevard in South End with an 80-seat rooftop bar called Topside, which keeps its own hours and seats first come, first served. The kitchen says it buys responsibly sourced domestic seafood and runs a $1.50 oyster happy hour. There is also a Waterman counter at Charlotte Douglas airport, which is out of scope for this site.

The Thirsty Beaver is the small brick dive bar on Central Avenue that a 323-unit apartment complex was built around. Brothers Brian and Mark Wilson opened it in 2008 and lease the building from owner George Salem, who turned down two offers from the developer that bought the surrounding land for 8.5 million dollars in 2015. The developer built the apartments in a horseshoe around the bar instead, and the Associated Press called it Charlotte's own version of the house from Up. There is live music on Sundays and a pool table.

Tipsy Pickle is the pickleball house at Camp North End, with professional-sized courts, golf simulators and cornhole, though its own site puts the food and drink first. The kitchen runs what it calls 'approachable Tex-mex with Margaritas, Cold beer & much more', and the bar keeps local beer, picklebacks and fried pickles. It opens at seven in the morning every day, earlier than anything else on the site.
Tommy’s Pub looks modest from the parking lot, but the calendar gives you a better idea of the place: live bands, karaoke and offbeat movie nights. Inside, a long bar and walls covered with signs give it the feel of a room people have made their own. Come for a particular show or settle in for a casual evening at the bar.
Town Brewing sits on Grandin Road in FreeMoreWest, a block off West Morehead, and runs a full kitchen alongside the beer.
