Mama’s Caribbean Grill serves Jamaican and Caribbean dishes in Plaza Midwood. Its menu includes jerk chicken, curry goat, oxtail and brown stew chicken. Pilot is a small Central Avenue brewery and taproom in the middle of the Plaza Midwood strip, opening at 2pm on weekdays and 11am at the weekend.
Resident Culture's Plaza Midwood taproom sits on Central Avenue and describes the company as a celebration of the absurd. A food truck serves the taproom rather than an in-house kitchen. The brewery's site carries a James Beard Foundation Fellow seal for 2023.
Snug Harbor is a small pirate-themed room on Gordon Street in Plaza Midwood that has been booking national, regional and local bands since 2007. Doors are at 8pm and the show is at 9pm Monday through Saturday. Karaoke runs to 2am on Thursdays and Sundays, and DJ nights sit alongside the live bookings.
Supperland is a Southern steakhouse inside a restored mid-century church on The Plaza, from the same Jeff Tonidandel and Jamie Brown group behind Haberdish and Growlers Pourhouse. Its own site says the restaurant occupies a restored mid-century church in Plaza Midwood and is plain about the work involved: restoring an old building is never an easy task, especially when that building is getting turned into a restaurant. The Bar at Supperland runs out of the church annex behind the main room, and there is a reservations-only speakeasy. It was named a Selected restaurant in the 2025 MICHELIN Guide American South, and its lead bartender Colleen Hughes won the guide's 2025 American South Exceptional Cocktails Award.
The Bohemian is a wine bar on Pecan Avenue, a block off the Central Avenue strip, pouring by the glass and the bottle with cheese and charcuterie boards to go with them. It opens at noon most days and closes at 11pm on Friday and Saturday, which makes it one of the quieter rooms in a loud neighbourhood.
The Common Market describes itself as an uncommon convenience store, deli and bar: you can buy a six-pack, order a sandwich made fresh that day, and drink the beer on site. The Plaza Midwood store on Commonwealth Avenue is the one the neighbourhood built itself around. The company now also runs stores in South End, Oakwold on Monroe Road and Durham, with a Raleigh store listed as opening in 2026.
Pub on Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood. Its site lists multiple flat-screen TVs and game-day watch parties, and its Instagram bio says it shows Penn State and Chiefs games. Penn State Charlotte and Charlotte FC both list it.
The Rabbit Hole is a live room on Commonwealth Avenue that books bands and DJs and sums itself up in three lines on its own site: good drinks, good music, good people. It runs to 2am six nights a week and opens at noon Friday through Sunday. Axios Charlotte reported new ownership for it and for Jackalope Jack's in August 2025.
The Workman's Friend is a Central Avenue pub that calls itself a friendly neighbourhood watering hole. It runs two rooms with different characters: a dark, cosy side and an open-air bar. It is the latest-closing room in Plaza Midwood on this list, open to 2am seven nights a week, and it opens at 10am on weekends.
The Thirsty Beaver is the small brick dive bar on Central Avenue that a 323-unit apartment complex was built around. Brothers Brian and Mark Wilson opened it in 2008 and lease the building from owner George Salem, who turned down two offers from the developer that bought the surrounding land for 8.5 million dollars in 2015. The developer built the apartments in a horseshoe around the bar instead, and the Associated Press called it Charlotte's own version of the house from Up. There is live music on Sundays and a pool table.
Thomas Street Tavern is the kind of Plaza Midwood stop where dinner can turn into a longer evening. The brick building on Thomas Avenue opens into a bar with a roomy outdoor hangout behind it. Get something to eat, find a seat with friends and leave room for a game of ping-pong or cornhole.
A Plaza Midwood Mexican kitchen and cantina whose current official page lists kids eat free on Mondays with an adult purchase. The page does not publish an age limit for the offer.
Uchi brings chef Tyson Cole's sushi and Japanese small plates to Commonwealth Avenue in Plaza Midwood. Daily happy hour lets you try a separate menu before the full dinner crowd arrives. Reserve a table or try a walk-in seat; patio seating depends on the weather.
Whiskey Warehouse sits on The Plaza across from Supperland and calls itself a top shelf pub: classic American dining, craft beer and cocktails, with a rooftop above the main bar. The rooftop keeps its own hours and runs latest of all, to 2am on Friday and Saturday.
