Birdsong was founded in 2010 by husband and wife Chris and Tara Goulet with their friend Conor Robinson, after they decided Charlotte needed a neighborhood brewery pouring fresh, unfiltered American ale. The taproom sits on North Davidson Street between Optimist Park and NoDa, with a patio running fire tables and outdoor heaters through the cold months.
Bonterra is a restaurant and wine room inside a converted church at Cleveland and East Worthington in Dilworth. The building went up in the late 1800s as Atherton Methodist Church, the first permanent place of worship in the area, got its brick exterior in 1914 and was renamed Dilworth Methodist Episcopal Church South. It later housed the First Church of Nazareth and Greater Providence Baptist Church before it became a restaurant. Chef Blake Hartwick cooks classic American food from local farms and says he wants the food to speak for itself. The wine room and cellar host wine pairing dinners, and the phone number spells out 704-333-WINE.
Bradshaw is the neighborhood-bar choice when you want a burger, wings or a game on TV. Its covered patio gives groups another place to sit. The weekly calendar includes trivia, music bingo, live-band karaoke and Friday music, with DJs on Saturdays. Later visits can be lively, so check the lineup if you are choosing between a conversation over dinner and a night of music.
Copain's Ballantyne brasserie starts the day with pastries and coffee, then serves French dishes through the evening. The Stream Way location offers full table service with bar seating and a patio. Dinner reservations are available through the restaurant's own site.
Brewers at 4001 Yancey is a shared brewing house in Lower South End, in an industrial brick building. It pours more than 40 taps, including beer it brews itself under the CLT Brew'd name plus beer and cider from Bold Rock, Sixpoint, Southern Tier and Victory. It has three outdoor patios and runs live music and beer-paired dinners.
Neighborhood sports bar beside the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC stadium. Its site lists over 20 TVs upstairs, downstairs and on the patio, and it hosts Charlotte FC away watch parties.
A Spanish-leaning tapas and cocktail bar on Roxborough Road, just off the SouthPark core. Its own site pairs small plates and late bites with a cocktail programme, and it keeps an indoor and outdoor space it rents for private events.
Craft Tasting Room & Growler Shop opened in 2014 on South Church Street in South End's Gold District, founded by the husband and wife team Alyson and Dan Davis. It pours local craft beer and draft cocktails next to regional cheeses, charcuterie, pizzas and flatbread sandwiches. It runs outdoor movie nights on Thursdays and hosts private parties.
Dilworth Neighborhood Grille is a bar and grill on East Morehead Street that is open until 2 a.m. every day of the week, which makes it one of the few genuinely late kitchens in this part of the city. Wings and pizza are the signature items alongside sandwiches, burgers, salads and barbecue. The room calls itself family friendly and has outdoor seating.
Dunbar Social pairs a restaurant and bar with Topgolf Swing Suite games at The Ballantyne. Its simulator bays offer golf and other games for groups, and an outdoor terrace has seating and a bar top. Reserve a bay through the venue's site.
Fahrenheit Charlotte is the 21st-floor rooftop restaurant at 222 South Caldwell Street. The recognizable part is not a storefront at street level. It is the wraparound patio, linear fireplaces and open skyline view above Uptown. Dinner runs every night, and the rooftop stays open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Reservations are for indoor dinner seating, while outdoor tables are not guaranteed.
The room that started the company. It opened in 2004 as a small wine shop in the Foxcroft East Shopping Center, next door to Barrington's, and grew into a full restaurant and wine bar in 2006. Over thirty wines are poured by the glass and hundreds of bottles sit on the retail shelves. The patio is heated through the cold months.
Great Wagon Road distils in NoDa on Anderson Street, making Rua single malt whiskey, Rua Gold, Quinn's Carolina Whiskey, Drumlish Irish poitin, Salamander vodka and 704 Gin, using spring water from Yancey County in the Blue Ridge. The room pours 14 beers on draft alongside the spirits and runs its own pizza kitchen. Weekly programming includes run clubs, open mic nights, live jazz on Mo Betta Thursdays, flight tastings and distillery tours.
A New York style pizza room on East 7th Street in Elizabeth, established in 2004. The company's own site invites guests onto the patio, calls the restaurant family and dog friendly, and publishes a kids menu with pizza, chicken, pasta, ravioli and macaroni and cheese. Its current specials page does not publish a kids-eat-free offer, so this profile does not treat the older Tuesday promotion as current.
Hestia turns dinner into an occasion above Ballantyne Village. Sushi, seafood and Japanese A5 Wagyu share the menu with cocktails and a view across South Charlotte. The terrace is the draw when the weather cooperates. Full dinner service requires a reservation; the cocktail bar and uncovered patio accept walk-ins for drinks and small bites. Dressy casual or business casual fits the room, and athletic wear is not permitted.
Juniper Grill is a useful dinner option when the group wants more than one kind of meal. Its Ballantyne menu mixes Southwestern dishes, smoked meats and seafood, with margaritas and a separate wine list. The covered patio gives you an outdoor table without making the whole evening depend on an open sky. This is the John J Delaney Drive location, close to Ballantyne Village.
Lenny Boy Brewing calls itself Charlotte's home for organic kombucha, beer and sours, on South Tryon Street in Lower South End. Alongside the kombucha it brews traditional beers, sours and craft cocktails. White Duck Taco Shop now operates inside the building, so guests order food at one counter and drinks at the bar and share a patio and pergola. The brewery's line is that culture matters.
Mellow Mushroom's Ballantyne restaurant serves stone-baked pizza with a draft beer and cocktail selection. Its own branch menu offers vegan and gluten-free pizza choices, and the location has a patio. This is the Ballantyne Village Way restaurant.
Merchant + Trade is a rooftop bar on the 19th floor at 303 Church Street in Uptown, with an indoor bar, an outdoor terrace, a private terrace and a lawn. It calls itself Charlotte's premier skyline destination and it runs its own rooftop kitchen. Seating is first come, first served and the room is 21 and over.
NoDa Brewing has been, in its own words, brewing craft beer for the Carolinas since 2011. It took its name from the NoDa arts district where it started, then moved its brewery and taproom to 150 W 32nd St off North Tryon; the old N Tryon address is still used for shipping. Pizza is served on site.
Come for shepherd's pie and a pint, then stay for the music. Nora Mac's brings a traditional Irish pub to Ballantyne Corners, with live music on Friday and Saturday nights and a rooftop patio for an outdoor drink. The menu reaches beyond burgers: try the Irish spice bag with curry sauce or a full Irish breakfast with black and white pudding. Kids have their own menu, including smaller fish and chips and shepherd's pie. Co-owner Dominic Kennedy opened the pub in the former Blackthorne space in late December 2024. Football is shown on TV too, so the same room can suit a family meal, a match or a lively music night.
A self-pour tap bar off Carmel Road where the beer, wine and cocktails come from the wall rather than a bartender. Local craft producers fill most of the taps. Food comes from rotating food trucks parked at a covered outdoor space the bar calls The Port.
Optimist Hall fills the 1892 Highland Park Gingham Mill on North Brevard Street between Optimist Park and NoDa. The long brick mill and its 1895 smokestack now hold more than 25 food stalls, dine-in restaurants, a full-service bar, a brewery and shops. It is the kind of place where a group can split up for tacos, dumplings, barbecue, pizza or Ethiopian food and still eat at the same table.
Petty Thieves is on Dalton Avenue in the Lower North End, and its beer garden looks straight at the Uptown skyline. The week runs trivia on Tuesdays, Stitch n' Bitch on Wednesdays and a run club on Thursdays. It closes Mondays.
Rooster's brings its wood-fired kitchen to Bowl Street with Southern ingredients and a seasonal menu. The Ballantyne restaurant has a full bar and patio seating, along with weekend brunch built around Copain breads and Carolina produce.
A neighborhood pub on Selwyn Avenue that has been serving the Myers Park side of Charlotte since 1990. Its own site leads with the outdoor space ... a large patio under a retractable roof, which is the reason most people name the place. The transfusion cocktail is the drink it is known for.
Supperland is a Southern steakhouse inside a restored mid-century church on The Plaza, from the same Jeff Tonidandel and Jamie Brown group behind Haberdish and Growlers Pourhouse. Its own site says the restaurant occupies a restored mid-century church in Plaza Midwood and is plain about the work involved: restoring an old building is never an easy task, especially when that building is getting turned into a restaurant. The Bar at Supperland runs out of the church annex behind the main room, and there is a reservations-only speakeasy. It was named a Selected restaurant in the 2025 MICHELIN Guide American South, and its lead bartender Colleen Hughes won the guide's 2025 American South Exceptional Cocktails Award.
The Goodyear House is a restaurant inside a restored 1920s mill home on North Davidson Street, and the name comes from how the house grew. Its own site explains that when folks had a good year, they would add onto their homes, so each section could carry a different colour or style. Behind the house is a tree-covered garden and patio built for gathering. The kitchen serves lunch and dinner through the week, plus brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery opened in 2009 and calls itself Charlotte's oldest standing independent brewery. It brews German-style beer to the Reinheitsgebot, using only water, malt, hops and yeast. Its LoSo home sits on a one-acre biergarten shaded by mature oak, pecan and hickory trees, which the brewery calls the largest biergarten in the Southeast. A second room opened in Ballantyne.
OMB's Ballantyne taproom serves German beer with pretzels, sausages and American pub food. The restaurant and biergarten are on Bowl Street, so this is the south Charlotte stop rather than the brewery's LoSo location.
The Waterman Fish Bar is a neighborhood seafood room on South Boulevard in South End with an 80-seat rooftop bar called Topside, which keeps its own hours and seats first come, first served. The kitchen says it buys responsibly sourced domestic seafood and runs a $1.50 oyster happy hour. It is part of the Charlotte group that trades as eat704, alongside Sea Level, High Tide and Packard Tavern. There is also a Waterman counter at Charlotte Douglas airport, which is out of scope for this site.
The Woodshed is a gay bar on Queen City Drive with a spacious patio and two outdoor bars. It is the official home of the Tradesmen, a Charlotte LGBTQ organization, and it hosts BLUF Charlotte events. It posts the latest close of any room in this file, 2:30am Monday through Saturday, with alcohol sales ending at 2am.
The Workman's Friend is a Central Avenue pub that calls itself a friendly neighbourhood watering hole. It runs two rooms with different characters: a dark, cosy side and an open-air bar. It is the latest-closing room in Plaza Midwood on this list, open to 2am seven nights a week, and it opens at 10am on weekends.
Thomas Street Tavern is the kind of Plaza Midwood stop where dinner can turn into a longer evening. The brick building on Thomas Avenue opens into a bar with a roomy outdoor hangout behind it. Get something to eat, find a seat with friends and leave room for a game of ping-pong or cornhole.
Town Brewing sits on Grandin Road in FreeMoreWest, a block off West Morehead, and runs a full kitchen alongside the beer. The taproom keeps a standing weekly calendar: open mic every Monday, trivia, a run club, trail talk meetups and a kids-eat-free night. Indoor and outdoor seating both run to a decent size.
Tyber Creek Pub is an Irish pub on South Mint Street in Wilmore, at the edge of South End. It pours Guinness and craft beer next to fish and chips and burgers, and it is open until 2 a.m. seven days a week. There is an outdoor patio and a private party space.
Vaulted Oak opened on 9 June 2021 inside a refurbished BB&T bank building on Monroe Road in east Charlotte, which is where the name comes from. Outside there is a large patio, covered seating and lawn chairs around a fire pit, plus cornhole. There is no kitchen; food trucks run Wednesday through Sunday, Sal's pizza is across the street, and people are told they can bring their own food.
Whiskey Warehouse sits on The Plaza across from Supperland and calls itself a top shelf pub: classic American dining, craft beer and cocktails, with a rooftop above the main bar. The rooftop keeps its own hours and runs latest of all, to 2am on Friday and Saturday.
The Chamber is Wooden Robot's NoDa room, on E 36th St, and it carries a rooftop bar that the South End original does not have. It keeps its own hours and closes Mondays.
