Armored Cow is the University City brewery, on JW Clay Boulevard near the UNC Charlotte campus. Dogs are a stated part of the house: 'Dogs are part of our family and part of our herd', provided they are leashed, friendly and respectful. Chewy named it one of the Top Dog-Friendly Breweries in the USA for 2025.
Birdsong was founded in 2010 by husband and wife Chris and Tara Goulet with their friend Conor Robinson, after they decided Charlotte needed a neighborhood brewery pouring fresh, unfiltered American ale. The taproom sits on North Davidson Street between Optimist Park and NoDa, with a patio running fire tables and outdoor heaters through the cold months.
Brewers at 4001 Yancey is a shared brewing house in Lower South End, in an industrial brick building. It pours more than 40 taps, including beer it brews itself under the CLT Brew'd name plus beer and cider from Bold Rock, Sixpoint, Southern Tier and Victory. It has three outdoor patios and runs live music and beer-paired dinners.
Club West Brewing reopened the former Sycamore taproom on March 14, 2026 under new owner Brad Bergman. Much of the staff stayed, and the beer list mixes familiar recipes with new ones. The room now has western decor, a revamped food menu and a bourbon bar. Club West opens at 8 a.m. daily, then carries the same South End address into lunch, drinks, live events and late nights.

Divine Barrel sits at the north end of NoDa on North Davidson Street and runs something most nights of the week: trivia Mondays, vinyl listening sessions Tuesdays, game night Wednesdays and a run club Thursdays. The brewery publishes its experimental work under the name DBB Labs.
Free Range is a family-run brewery on the lower end of North Davidson that works with Charlotte farmers, chefs and artists and says its beers are 95 percent made from locally grown ingredients. Its kitchen is a separate family-owned food program called Vivienne, which brings the flavours, traditions and hospitality of Scandinavia and the North Atlantic to Charlotte: Danish-style Rode Polser and Faroese-inspired seafood, with an emphasis on ingredients, regional relationships and a deep respect for tradition.
Free Range Bar is the Camp North End sister to Free Range Brewing in NoDa, and the landlord's page calls it 'a labor of love from brothers, Jeff and Jason Alexander'. It sits on Camp Road inside the old missile plant complex.
Barrel Arts is Heist's production brewery and second taproom, in a warehouse on Woodward Avenue north of NoDa. It has its own address, its own hours and its own kitchen: Livy's Neapolitan Pizzeria operates inside it.
Heist's original room is upstairs at 2909 N Davidson Street in NoDa, a brewery with a full kitchen rather than a taproom with a food truck. The company later added Heist Barrel Arts at 1030 Woodward Ave, a much larger production brewery and taproom with Livy's Neapolitan Pizzeria inside it.
Legion's Commonwealth Ave room in Plaza Midwood is the group's first Charlotte taproom. The company now runs four rooms across the city, including the Trolley Barn Fermentory and Food Hall on South Blvd, a West Morehead taproom and a SouthPark location.
Lenny Boy Brewing calls itself Charlotte's home for organic kombucha, beer and sours, on South Tryon Street in Lower South End. Alongside the kombucha it brews traditional beers, sours and craft cocktails. White Duck Taco Shop now operates inside the building, so guests order food at one counter and drinks at the bar and share a patio and pergola. The brewery's line is that culture matters.
NoDa Brewing has been, in its own words, brewing craft beer for the Carolinas since 2011. It took its name from the NoDa arts district where it started, then moved its brewery and taproom to 150 W 32nd St off North Tryon; the old N Tryon address is still used for shipping. Pizza is served on site.
Petty Thieves is on Dalton Avenue in the Lower North End, and its beer garden looks straight at the Uptown skyline. The week runs trivia on Tuesdays, Stitch n' Bitch on Wednesdays and a run club on Thursdays. It closes Mondays.
Pilot is a small Central Avenue brewery and taproom in the middle of the Plaza Midwood strip, opening at 2pm on weekdays and 11am at the weekend.
LoSo brewery and pizza kitchen with a heated patio. Its own FAQ says it has plenty of TVs to share, and the Charlotte Buckeyes list it for their 2026 college football game watches.
Resident Culture's second Charlotte taproom is inside the Market on 7th Street in Uptown, with its own posted hours that run earlier in the day than the Plaza Midwood brewery.
Resident Culture's Plaza Midwood taproom sits on Central Avenue and describes the company as a celebration of the absurd. A food truck serves the taproom rather than an in-house kitchen. The brewery's site carries a James Beard Foundation Fellow seal for 2023.
Salud is a neighbourhood bar and pizzeria on North Davidson that pours both its own house-brewed beer and a curated list from elsewhere. Its own site describes the place as good food, no compromises, and the kitchen runs to pizza and sandwiches. It opens at 8am on Saturday and Sunday.
Sugar Creek Brewing sits on Southside Drive off South Boulevard, and it is the Charlotte brewery that went all in on one style. Its own line is that it is 'dedicated to crafting Belgian-inspired ales for the Carolinas and beyond', with a philosophy that 'combines the watchful eye of a Trappist Monk with the technical precision of a nuclear engineer'. Co-founders Joe Vogelbacher and Eric Flanigan are named on the site.
The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery opened in 2009 and calls itself Charlotte's oldest standing independent brewery. It brews German-style beer to the Reinheitsgebot, using only water, malt, hops and yeast. Its LoSo home sits on a one-acre biergarten shaded by mature oak, pecan and hickory trees, which the brewery calls the largest biergarten in the Southeast. A second room opened in Ballantyne.
OMB's Ballantyne taproom serves German beer with pretzels, sausages and American pub food. The restaurant and biergarten are on Bowl Street, so this is the south Charlotte stop rather than the brewery's LoSo location.
Suffolk Punch is a brewery, taphouse, restaurant and coffee bar in one building on Griffith Street in South End, near the New Bern light rail station and the Rail Trail. It runs themed trivia nights and takes private event bookings. There are two other rooms, at SouthPark and at Birkdale Commons in Huntersville.
Town Brewing sits on Grandin Road in FreeMoreWest, a block off West Morehead, and runs a full kitchen alongside the beer. The taproom keeps a standing weekly calendar: open mic every Monday, trivia, a run club, trail talk meetups and a kids-eat-free night. Indoor and outdoor seating both run to a decent size.
Triple C Brewing sits on Griffith Street in South End, directly across from Suffolk Punch. Its three Cs are Craft, Community and Charlotte. The taproom shares the building with Izzy's, a wood-fired kitchen, and with The Barrel Room, an event space. It runs live music and mahjong nights.
The Trolley Barn Fermentory & Food Hall is Legion Brewing's South End room, on South Boulevard beside the Rail Trail in the Atherton Mill area. Legion runs four rooms, all inside Charlotte: Plaza Midwood, this one, West Morehead and SouthPark. The company opened its largest production facility in west Charlotte in 2022.
Vaulted Oak opened on 9 June 2021 inside a refurbished BB&T bank building on Monroe Road in east Charlotte, which is where the name comes from. Outside there is a large patio, covered seating and lawn chairs around a fire pit, plus cornhole. There is no kitchen; food trucks run Wednesday through Sunday, Sal's pizza is across the street, and people are told they can bring their own food.
Wooden Robot calls itself an urban farmhouse brewery and says it blends art and science to make its beer. The South End room at 1440 S Tryon is the original taproom and it runs a kitchen and a coffee bar alongside the beer, opening at 8 a.m. on weekdays. A second Charlotte room, The Chamber in NoDa, holds the wood-aging program and a rooftop bar.
The Chamber is Wooden Robot's NoDa room, on E 36th St, and it carries a rooftop bar that the South End original does not have. It keeps its own hours and closes Mondays.
