The Beatties Ford Road corridor and the neighborhoods around it, the center of Black Charlotte's business and civic life for most of the twentieth century, with Johnson C. Smith University at its heart. The restaurants here are frequently family businesses running into a second or third generation.

The Woodshed is a gay bar on Queen City Drive with a spacious patio and two outdoor bars. It is the official home of the Tradesmen, a Charlotte LGBTQ organization, and it hosts BLUF Charlotte events. It posts the latest close of any room in this file, 2:30am Monday through Saturday, with alcohol sales ending at 2am.
